#Just Jot It January–Candy

Though I have enjoyed Just Jot It January, I think it is the greatest prompt to end the month. I’m glad to see the daily prompt gone as my brain can’t seem to think of something to write. Yet here we are on the verge of February and all the candy of the day that celebrates love.

I think that I will miss a prompt-a-day, though as I will now have to think of what to write about with no prompt. Ah, well. It’s been fun. Enjoy your candy!

#JusJoJan/#SoCS End/Begin

The end choice in the boredom of what I want to watch next is Reign. I’ve passed it up so many times as it seemed a teenie bopper choice. Even from the beginning the modern music and the prom dresses throw all believability out the window.  If you are looking for something with true historic meaning, you’ll not find it here. But if you want a fun show to watch that is nevertheless a bit of a lesson to said teenie boppers of how females were treated and how little has changed in a lot of cases, while hoping to never go back to that life, this is your new show. Just suspend belief even from the beginning.

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “the beginning, the end.” Write about the beginning of something and the end of something. Bonus points if your first sentence contains “the end” and your last sentence contains “the beginning.” <– Read that again. Have fun!

My very favorite place in the whole world is a beach. No matter the weather or the type. As long as it is the ocean. I’m not one for lakes. They are pretty. But my soul doesn’t feel that marvelous head to toe feeling I get smelling the salty breeze, feeling the squish of sand escaping under my feet with the bubbling surf suds. The sparkle of the sand in the sunshine, the change of color as clouds wander overhead. Treasure abounds with each shell or scurrying crab or bird. Farther away, seeing a whale migration or school of fish helping the magical ecology of the watery world. Ah, beach.

Just Jot It January–Storm

We have had small storms this winter. This one was a couple weeks ago. I think we got an inch of snow. Today we had clear skies and mud instead of snow. My friends and family have had nasty storms, getting 6-8 inches. I know for a lot of people it is dangerous if not a chilly inconvenience. But I love the snow. I grew up in Southern California, where the only way we saw snow was on visits to the mountains.

A different kind of storm worried our minds as we thought that Rosey, our black polydactyl cat, might have something bad wrong with her. My husband took her to the vet today. He was impressed by how beautiful she looked. All her tests were in the normal range. The sad thing is we still don’t have anything for her spells. Every now and then, she seems to turn summersaults and moves around on her elbows and knees. She defecates and vomits and needs to stay in the dark quiet. Then she recovers and is quite fine ready to eat and play. The vet says it is neurological, and there isn’t much we can do but ride the spells out. If they start coming more often, we’ll be forced to make decisions that are not so comfortable to think about.

What do you get when you cross vampires with snowmen?

Frostbite.

Sorry

Ugh!

Just Jot It January–Shutter

I don’t know how to use the word ‘shutter’ in this sense as I know nothing about photography. But I did take a cell pic of my finished slipper socks. And John Holton, tell Mary one cuff is bigger. But hey, they are for me! Gift yarn = gift for me!

Just jot It January–Specs

Sometimes getting old is embarrassing. Take the for instance that I reading my own writing for writers’ group feeling impossible. You see, my specs are many, but the vision is bad.

The top pair are readers that my husband picked up. They have little lights. They work for close work, fine yarn knitting. But my tracking for actual reading still doesn’t work with them.

The middle pair are the prescribed pair from a couple years ago. For my far or right eye, they seem to help for some things; I can actually read things on the television. The left eye feels these are a waste of time. When I take the dog out and look far away, I see halos around lights that look like Ferris wheels. Fun for my inner child that would love a carnival here in the middle of nowhere. By the way, without glasses, I can still see far away with the right, yet I don’t have the halos to confuse me.

The bottom pair of specs are adjustable. They look ugly but for some things, they are an improvement over even the prescribed glasses. If I spend a longer time on the computer than I like, I can dial up a better vision. They don’t help the left eye much, but the overworked right eye can hang with me for a few more minutes with their help.

Sometimes I have yarn complications (intricate frogging or tinking or sewing), then I have to don these lovelies:

But any length of time with these gives me a huge headache.

So tomorrow I need to make an appointment to get to one of these:

With my prescribed glasses, I can barely read the big E with my left eye, and that is with my laptop on my lap. Once I can get the correction I need, I hope to get to other people’s blogs and read again. I miss everyone! Oh, and I’ll be able to read the specs on the meds that I can’t read now, Oh, and I’ll be able to read my own writing for the Easy Writers.

Here are the JusJoJan Rules:

1. Just Jot It January starts January 1st, but it’s never too late to join in! Here, we run on the honour system; the “jot it” part of JusJoJan means that anything you jot down, anywhere (it doesn’t have to be a post, it can even be a grocery list), counts as a “jot.” If it makes it to your blog that day, great! If it waits a week to get from a sticky note to your screen, no problem!

2. I’ll post prompts at 2am my time (GMT -5). The prompt will be the word in quotation marks in the title of my 2am post. You don’t have to follow the prompt every day, but that will be where you leave your link for others to see. You’ll get a prompt for every day except Wednesday, when the prompt is simply my One-Liner Wednesday and on Saturday, when your prompt will be the Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS, which will appear at about 9:30am Friday. Each prompt post will include the rules.

3. Please ping back or link to the daily prompt. To ping back, just copy the URL from the daily prompt post, and paste it anywhere in your post. Check to make sure your link shows up where you want it to, and go back occasionally to see other bloggers’ entries – the more you visit others, the more they’ll visit you! Note: A) The newest pingbacks will be at the top of the comments section. B) Ping backs only work if you’re blogging on WordPress. Everyone else must paste a link manually.

4. Tag your post JusJoJan and/or #JusJoJan.

5. Write anything! Any length will do! It can even be a photo or a drawing – you’re going to title it, right? There’s your jot!

6. If your post is NSFW, do not ping back. Please leave your link in the comments with a warning.

7. If you’d like to, use the JusJoJan badge so that others can find your post more easily.

Just Jot It January–Trigger

I am giving you a trigger warning, but it won’t bring you:

If you are like me, this one will make you happy:

Yes, it’s been snowing AND STICKING today. We got about an inch. I took Kali out, and the peaceful sound and glow of snow just warmed my soul. I hope it snows more tonight. We really need it.

I’m trying to catch up with my Graham Norton. That is making me happy. I haven’t watched it since before Christmas. We still have up our tree(s). I feel cool knowing there is snow with the shine of Christmas lights. We were going to take it down a couple days ago, but we were all either too lazy or still glowing from the spirit. Anybody else slow to get rid of Christmas? Graham Norton commercials are all Christmas. I wish those could be packed up and the trees left out. Merry Month Later Christmas Eve!

So what did I trigger?

Per Linda G. Hill

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “close eyes and point.” When you’re ready to write your post, open a book, a newspaper, or whatever is handy and close your eyes, and point. Whatever word or picture your finger lands on, make that the basis of your SoCS/JusJoJan post. Enjoy!

Since I am concentrating on learning to make needle knit socks the nearest book was:

and the random page I turned to was:

There are the words in the second paragraph on the page on the left.

‘The Basic’ seems awfully simple but I have been studying this book and trying different angles to get socks done. Not so basic. I have several starts on big and little needles. But what seems to be what will be working for me, I hope, is VeryPink’s version of Two Socks-at-a-Time, Toe-up. Here is the YouTube I’ve been working on for a few days now. I’m getting reading to frog again. But I know what I did wrong and so I have learned a little more with each try.

Meanwhile, Kali is doing better. My daughter shared this picture of the day they swore her in as Kali the dog. That was before my daughter moved from her brother’s duplex to her own apartment. That was when she learned how bad Kali’s separation anxiety was. That was how Kali came to live with us where she is never alone.

What can be more basic than the swearing-in of a dog? LOL!

Isn’t it the most interesting word, limp? My first thought is to the picture above. And as I look at the picture, it makes me think of last year and the beginning of this year. Slow and a struggle. Overall. But for me, retired, nothing has been too different. I have plenty of things I want to learn and do, and since I wouldn’t have had enough money to travel like I want to, I enjoy quieter pursuits.

Another look at the word makes me see that those my age are grateful to be up and walking even if the hips or other joints cause a bit of a limp. We’re just glad we aren’t down and out like a limp washrag. Who needs a picture of that? Oh, but I couldn’t resist Googling. What a surprise that what I found is a new sole-mate sock and otherwise yarning person. Check her out. What a fun vlog!

Now I have another fun YouTube to subscribe to and watch.

Now back to the socks I’m loom-knitting and needle knitting. And like poor Angela, the back is hurting, so I need to limp to take Kali outside.

We’ve had a bit of a limping snow flurry-ish today. I think the weather is getting colder again. Probably why the achiness. We are expecting snow on Sunday and then a couple more times next week. We need it. My eyes and soul love it, so I hope they are right. Some things are worth the pain, don’t you think?
