Making Monday

Scrappy socks are nearly finished. Most of the pair are made of the Mani-Pedi crew color yarn. The toes and heels are scraps from the previous pair I made. I’m loving how they are working up.

We lived through the triple digit hot Sunday. Today was sort of hot but not nearly as bad. Tomorrow is supposed to be 72. I might wear jeans and T-shirt instead of shorts and tank-top what a relief! I might take a nice walk as air quality is also supposed to be good for a change.

Made it, Monday

Well, I made it to my daughter’s. It was a long but fun ride with my friend. We enjoyed 60s oldies to get us through the trip.

Sadly, we had to drive through a lot of smoke to get into Reno. So much burned on either side of the freeway. A lot of home lost or in danger. Many were evacuated awaiting a chance to see if they still have homes. It’s so sad.

My people are safe. But this is not so for so many.

Meanwhile, temps are in the triple digits. Thank goodness for AC in the homes I’m visiting.

I’m so tired from the trip I think I’ll retire early.

Blurry Dark Friday

I was on the Zoom meeting with my friends around 4 in the afternoon. Suddenly my face disappeared on the screen. I looked around and it was dark. I turned on the light. I thought nothing of it. Too busy chatting to notice.

Kali needed outside. I put the laptop to the side. When I got to the door, I thought my cataracts had gotten way worse. My eyes burned. I rubbed them gently. Nothing cleared. This is what I saw:

The world was smokey and yellow. The sky was dark as 9PM not 4PM. You should see a field or two, trucks or cars on a highway, and Green Mountain which is only 12 miles away.

The only good of all the smoke is that our temperature didn’t reach the 90s. But as I said to my son, not breathing and cooler is not a goal I would endorse.

For those who are curious, this is from the Bootleg fire in Chiloquin, Oregon.

There are so many fires in Northern California and Oregon. It feels like a rerun of last year. The draught is so bad lakes are drying up. Again, I realized that the folks in the fires and those in the east with hurricanes and floods have it worse by far.

But maybe, don’t you think, global warming/climate change should take the lead beside the epidemic as something to work harder on than the band aid approach we’re giving it?

I didn’t have a picture nearby but the ball sits with me. That starts my stream of consciousness. Beach ball. Summer. It is still in the 80s, I’m sure at this time. The bugs will invade within the hour as they have been for the past few evenings. Ugh! The bugs make me wish for snow!

Summer used to be my favorite season. That was when I could go to the beach or pool to swim. I love being in the water. I wasn’t a beach bunny that liked to be out on the sand getting a tan. If I could I would be swimming. Diving down to the bottom. Swimming on the bottom as long as my breath would last. I even remember having tea parties on the pool floor. Just thinking all this is helping my body temperature lessen.

Walking on the sand at the beach. The delightful cool wet sand after the heated sand that seemed to release muscle aches but then started burning the soles of my feet. The water lapping up to my feet with foam and sometimes seaweed. The sand leaving from under my toes as if it were alive. The cold water nearly causing pain, definitely causing me to screech. And then I would hear the transistor radio of someone on shore my favorite summer song. I knew it was summer when I heard it.

My next to favorite song that reaffirms summer is:

Thank you for helping me cool off and remember my favorite memories of summer past. Maybe sometime we will be able to enjoy all that again. Meanwhile. memories will have to do the job.

Per Linda:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “song.” First, find a picture–the closest one to you. Your prompt is the title and/or the lyrics of the first song that comes to mind when you look at the picture. Have fun!

Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

Hot. I have learned to like the snow but I prefer hot so I can swim. I miss swimming so much! Here we have a dry heat so all we need even when it is triple digits, is just a fan, a swamp cooler might be nice but we got along okay last summer on just fans. Now to find a pool.

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

I prefer long hair because I can put it up in a pony or bun if it gets hot. Short hair just takes too much upkeep as it starts growing.

What is your favorite month of the year?

July. August starts getting too hot and June isn’t warm enough. I have learned to like other seasons now, but warm doesn’t hurt like the other seasons.

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

I wish YouTube had been around for most of my life. I love being able to watch someone do something and then follow through doing it too. It is how I learned my loom knitting. I do well with written instructions but with my tracking problem only getting worse I think watching and being able to rewind and watch over and over helps a lot.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Sometimes a person just has to be grateful for breathing in and out and then see through a calm mind all the good in their lives, family, friends, a roof over my head, plenty to eat and drink, puppy and kittens–and I don’t mean Zombies for those that watch Z Nation.

I have a bunch of books from the e-library that came in so I look forward to reading those and finishing my Bate’s Motel binge. I didn’t realize how much I was going to like it. It isn’t like Psycho, all horror. It is seeing the crazy in that whole town of folks with some really good ones mixed in.

Thank you, Cee, of Cee’s Photography, for setting up some really good prompt questions. Please check out her site, it is fantastic!
