Finally, done with the things like my walk, winter clothes out, and summer put away. Hey, did I tell you I’ve managed another 36+ hour fast? I’m pretty jazzed about that. It has taken me a LONG time to get to this point. I decided Sunday is best for the day to skip food. It gets more of a spiritual feeling as I try to find which things to focus my thoughts on. And just like the fast I did with my husband for his procedure last week, I find the hours 24 and 25 the most difficult. After that, it is a piece of cake. I broke that fast with two slices of bread with butter and one egg. And I didn’t get sick from it! Yay!

The fall progress picture was taken after my walk.

The trees and mesquite bushes are shedding quite a lot.

So on to my #Inktober submission and a continuation of the story.

“Crystal, wake up!” Her fan was shaking her.

“Go away. Let me sleep!” Crystal groaned. Then she rolled over. She was cold. She pulled on her hood and stuck her hands in her pockets. “Oh, it’s over?”

The fan was surprised. “Yeah. What was all that? Was it real?” The fan held out her hand. “Cindy, by the way. My name is Cindy.”

Crystal took Cindy’s hand and allowed Cindy to help Crystal to her feet. “Hi, Cindy! What happened?” Crystal knew. But each of her helpers experienced these things far differently from what Crystal knew as the truth.

“Were you a lizard? Who killed the guard? And should we go help that guy?” Cindy asked and pointed to another corner where a barrel seemed to be calling out with a hand waving. “And what is that sour smell?”

Crystal sniffed the air and wrinkled her nose. “Ew! Yeah. What is that?”

Crystal and Cindy walked toward the barrel. As they got closer, the word ‘Pickles’ gave them the odor’s origin. “They must be rotten pickles.” Crystal stated. She reached into the barrel and pulled out a man in a soggy green uniform. A puffy sopping hat was in his other hand.

“William! How did you get in here?” Crystal asked.

“There was a huge wind. It blew off my hat. The hat fell into the barrel. I had to go in and get it. But that was when I got stuck. I’m so glad you found me before I was pickled.”

Crystal laughed. She understood how all this happened. She wanted to hug her friend, but, ick! “Let’s go back to my trailer, and I’ll explain it all to both of you.
After you shower and change into clean clothes, that is. You’re quite the guard, Will! And you were put into quite the pickle!” She laughed again.

Sunday Meditations

I’ve been trying to reduce my cortisol, um, belly-fat. I’m already eating my intermittent fasting/Keto/low carbs/high fat diet. I’ll know tomorrow how well my progress has been. My husband is sure I’ve lost more than 25 pounds. My clothes are falling off, unless they are the old smaller sizes.

Still my belly seems more than should be at this size. Cortisol is caused by stress. Not that I think my retired life is stressful. But this last year has had its effect. So I’m starting to wake with Headspace Meditations. Either on Netflix or YouTube.

Then after my two days of eye appointments, I plan to add these yoga lessons.

Though we’ve seen clearer skies the last few days I haven’t begun the None2run program, but for now I have to call it walking. My new shoes are begging me to get out there. I didn’t want to start on a rainy or muddy, windy day.

I’m still playing with the hula hoop, light weights, band stretching. Just trying to get ready for real workouts.

As I meandered my thoughts about today, I found my eclectic stroll even more so.

My current binge is The Walking Dead, again. My son has all ten seasons. I like watching the old way because there are extra bits like ‘the making of’ or interviews. The show parts I can let slide by as I have committed a lot to memory.

I was watching Outlander again. But it won’t have a new season until next year some time. I’d love to read another book or two, but I’m caught up there, too.

One thing I found in common between these two shows is the music. Guess what? Same musician in both.  Bear McCreary is amazing!

Today was my last Beginning Recorder  class with Jennifer Carpenter of the American Recorder Society.  They were free. As soon as I can, I plan to join. There are more lessons coming up in September. I’m loving learning on my alto and soprano recorders.

Meanwhile, I have a lot of Kindle and paper books to keep up the education.

And there are lessons on YouTube like those of Sarah Jeffery and Team Recorder. She is so much fun.

For those who think Recorder is for grade school take a listen:

That beginning photo at the top of my post? I stepped outside with the dog. The wind was hitting me in the face and the sky looked like it disguised itself with a mustache. It felt so grand to feel such a cool breeze coming from the north. That meant a lot less smoke for us today. I’m thankful for that!

Maybe soon I can start taking walks!? I did learn at the doctor’s appointment on Monday that I have lost over 23 pounds now. Lots still to go but hey, it’s working.

Ta-Da Tuesday

Went to my PCP today. Guess what? I’ve lost 6 pounds! Yay! It’s working. And becoming less work as I learn. I’ve picked up the paper copies of The Diabetes Code, The Obesity Code, and The Complete Guide to Fasting, all by Dr. Jason Fung. I read The Diabetes Code and The Cancer Code. You can click on the underlined titles to see my reviews. I’m getting ready to read The Obesity Code. Dr. Jason Fung can write a thought-provoking book while displaying a sense of humor.

Intermittent Fasting using low-carbs high fat or keto is proving to be easier and easier. I seem to be doing quite well on one very healthy meal a day. That means a 20 or like today 22 hours of fast and a two to four-hour window to make sure I’ve eaten well.

I was delighted that my team at the doctor’s office knew about and encouraged this method of achieving better health.

A to Z, A

According to my goal I am to write something that reflects what I did for CampNaNo. The editing is hard to quantify I worked on twenty pages. I added no words. Yet when I copied and pasted the number of pages I worked on to a blank sheet it said I had 2,041 words that I wandered and did edits to some.

And on another note, I am trying to get back into taking my daily walks. Today I walked .86 whatever that amounts to. I think it might be over 3/4 of a mile? That’s what the app told me. So that is now added as part of my 16/8 keto-ish/fast-ish eating/not eating program. I’m still learning, adjusting as I learn. Adding the walking makes Kali happy. She wants me to run, but not yet, sweetie!

Anyone watching American Gods? I read it a few years ago. I remember being quite lost as I read but it all came together in the end. I am following this better, or maybe it is because I know what to expect? It isn’t even PG rated so if you are under 18 or don’t like sex or violence this might not be for you. I don’t like the violence and find the sexy parts hard to watch if my brother or son are in the room. But the overall story is pretty good.

Another goal I have in mind to integrate into April is practicing my piano or singing or both. On my walks of the last two days I have been singing with my Spotify-ed songs. So–check!

All of this while trying to get healthier through my finally decent medical insurance. All this tests and appointment after a year of sitting in the recliner awaiting the end of this darned pandemic.

Anyway, that’s all I got for A!

By the way, I don’t like practical jokes or April Fools and I love laughing and puns of all kinds. I just don’t like making fun of people in any way.

Thus Thursday

I’ve shared my favorite break-fast of salmon, spinach, and cheese. But I have another that is sans cheese. And it was so filling I had to put up half for later.

I had made a sweet potato yesterday. It was too big so I put half of it in with the salmon and spinach. I had Bragg’s Liquid Aminos to give flavor. I recently bought these noodles. Check them out!

These add texture and fiber without too many carbs or calories. 👍

My favorite and most easy break-fast brunch.

Salmon sprinkled with lemon pepper, olive oil, Bragg’s vinegar,  smothered in baby spinach and cheese. Love! Please tell me this is not bad for me.
