I got to road trip then spend time with my son and daughter. And SO daughter. We had a lot of fun. It was HOT so we couldn’t do much and stay COVID safe but we managed.
Now I get to visit friends.
Why do I turn into a crybaby when I have to leave?

For those who need to know; travel Monday and see you soon!
This sweetie scared me to tears this morning. He’s been more vocal than usual. He sounds like a newborn when he cries.
Suddenly he was on the table drooling and running in circles. He fell off the table and still drooling and more chasing his tail, then suddenly he was on the floor seizing.
I thought for sure he was dying. He’s my buddy! No!
Then he calms down. I called the vet and they asked us to bring him in.
He has had a bad tooth infection. So we figured it was back.
Teddy loves to ride in cars. He came to us as a kitten.
My son’s girlfriend was driving from Garden Grove to Reno. She chose to drive at night. Less traffic, cooler. Just as she got into the car this ginger kitten jumped in.
It was too late to see who he belonged to. She did have her mom call around and never found his owner.
He loved the trip. She bought a kitty litter, food and water for him at a pit stop.
He loved the moving trip here five years ago.
I tried to find the picture couldn’t find it. Sorry.
Anyway, he loved the trip to the vet today, in spite of his pain.
The vet said he declined the butt-temp check, he declined the check for the the bad tooth, and he declined the poke for hydration. I think that was kind for he wasn’t about to have any of that!
The vet did manage to give him an antibiotic shot that should last two weeks and she gave us some pain killer if he should be in pain.
The trip home was so nice as he loved watching the world go by or nap.
Now we’re all home and ready to sleep.
As I mentioned before, my daughter doesn’t have cable. She has Netflix and Hulu but doesn’t find herself in front of the set all that much. She like YouTube and podcasts of all kinds. She’s rather intellectual and prefers science to fantasy. And so I am always learning something new from her.
On road trips, she has downloaded podcasts for those long stretches where there is no reception. While traveling this time she introduced me to someone I already knew. I read Wild by Cheryl Strayed so when she said she had the podcast, Dear Sugar, I was pretty excited. It was full of good advice and spirited fun. I plan to try and tune in every now and then.
My son and daughter (it was the both of them that brought me back home from Reno) have set up a fun adventure for when traveling. They like to set up a challenge for each other as to a period of time for the music they will listen to on their long ride. So when they took me home and then on the road trip to Bend they listened mainly to music they thought represented the early 2000s. Since there wasn’t a lot I recognized I found it fun and enlightening.
My most fun was on the trip to Bend (when we were taking Kali for her check up at the vet). It was on Good Friday so it seemed appropriate to listen to Jesus Christ Superstar. I know many don’t like that. I’m sorry. I have always found it to hold depth and memories for me. I had friends at AVC who did the musical and did a far better job that the movie or Broadway bunch. My friend sang lead in the SuperStar choir generally thought to be the ghost of Judas but she did such a fantastic job I still remember. That whole troupe did an outstanding job and those scenes play out when I hear this music. It was wonderful for my daughter to let me have my little tradition as our traveling music.
Isn’t it amazing how sounds can help a drive go so much more smoothly?
I have to most amazing offspring. I love sitting around with any one of them and chatting. This week I get to do a lot of this. The Last adult-offspring came to visit me yesterday and will be taking me back to her place this coming week to visit with family and friends there.
The best thing in life, besides my awesome offspring, is Long road trips with Loved ones. Here is a picture of what we saw on our way home. That one cloud looked almost like a tornado or hurricane. Huge and all the way to the ground. Yet, as you can see blue skies all around us.
Yet the ground was semi-dry and Hubby said that the weather had been rather nice at home. Wierd! More road-tripping tomorrow, YAY!!!
This is part of the #AtoZChallenge. Brought to you by the letter ‘L’!

John Green does it again! That is not to say that I have loved everything he has written. I don’t have fond memories of Looking for Alaska. I may have to try it again someday to see if I just wasn’t in the mental space for it. But this one, Paper Towns, hit me just right. I can see why it became a movie. I can’t imagine how they are going to do it, but I knew I wanted to read it first. Now I can’t wait to see it.
Using the male text-to-speech narration on my Fire, this story unfolded itself in a non-unstoppable way. I cared for all the characters and the mysteries that the main character, Q, was out to solve. Most of those are just the questions we all ask, but especially as we get ready for college and the next part of our lives.
Knowing this was written with young adults in mind, I was very impressed with the classics that were alluded to. AND the research was clearly done on the paper towns was quite evident. But even with those thoughts in mind, the story drives the reader. In fact, I miss the characters and wish to know what happens after they get into their careers or college. Even so, it ends nicely.
I might read this again someday with the narration of Audible Whispersync to see how it reads out that way. Try this book. I think you’ll like it.

The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett

Serendipity. Do you want to know how lucky/blessed I am? Well, I’m going to tell you right here in this review as I can’t separate my life from my reading diet.
A week ago I had been invited to go on a potential road trip to see my foster daughter. There were so many things that could happen to prevent said trip. So I was calling it the ‘iffy trip’. But things didn’t go wrong. Somehow everything went right and I got to go. I hadn’t been in Oregon since I was in junior high. And I hadn’t seen my foster daughter for at least a decade. And who knows, that iffy trip may have me moving up to Oregon very soon! How cool is that?
My friend brought this book, The Wee Free Men, narrated by Stephen Briggs. What a great road trip read! My friend and I were enthralled! We were laughing so hard at the late Terry Pratchett’s writing for most of the trip north and then most of the trip south. And, yes, the writing is the basis of this experience. But Mr. Briggs’s acting skills were truly fantastic. He had all the accents and voices for everyone and kept the story going.
Often while listening to this I pictured getting into Mr. Prachett’s head while he was writing this story. He must have laughed to himself often with the puns that seem to rolls from his fingers into the pages. Then I wished I could watch Stephen Briggs do his part in front of the mic doing his performance. There had to be quite a few faces for each of the characters that seem to jump out of his mouth.
Needless to say, I have this book on my Kindle and Audible wishlists. I want to read it over and over. It is easily as great as Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz. It would be a great family read. SO fun!
The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson

What a delightful series! I am sorry to be finished with book 2. I do hope there will be more. For the young adult this widens the world to seek out life beyond the comfort zone. For those of us that are older and for whatever reason bound to our situation of home and hearth, this lets out our wanderlust. We travel with Ginny and her friends to fulfill the requests of her belated Aunt Peg’s ‘scavenger hunt’ listed in her 13 blue envelopes.
For me, it was during a couple weeks of the summer when I chose to watch over other walls than my usual four. I was house sitting for relatives and friends. It would still be me sitting somewhere. But it got me out of my bed and on other sofas. Meanwhile, reading this special book, I felt I was really traveling, after all. packing and unpacking was involved. So though my real life was spent doing my usual within the same city I live in, I was in London, England, Amsterdam, and Paris.
I read finished reading this over a week ago, already returned the book to the library. But I loved it so much that I think when I feel the wanderlust, I will look this series up again. It was that much fun.
